No.8 of May 1st 1929. Commercial Treaty.

The possibility of readjustment of Anglo-Chinese

economic relations is, in the light of impressione formed

by Six Frederick Leith-Ross, under consideration.

I

shall be obliged if, for this purpose, you will let me

know by telegram as soon as possible whether the circule r

concerning the retention of national status by Chiness

,

goods shipped from one treaty port to another via Hong Kong

which was issued in February 1929 by the Inspector General

of the Chinese Maritime Customs, is still in force and being

effectively applied. If so, have its effecta been

appreciable on Hong Kong trade? Can they be estimated

quantitatively?
